Solar Panel Cleaning

It all depends on where you leave and the climate around it. City 1-2 times per year, desert area 2 or more times per year. But climate or conditions may affect the productivity of the Solar Panels, so use your best judgment. Also if you notice that the efficiency has dropped it could be a reason to have the panels cleaned.

Many in the solar panel industry agree that no tap water should be used to clean solar panels unless it has been filtered to a low TDS (0-20 ppm) the reason is that tap water has many impurities that can affect the integrity of the glass panels, chlorine, lead and heavy metals are some of the impurities found in tap water that must be filtered out. It does take months or years for the tap water to damage the glass of the Solar Panels by leaving permanent water spots, just like water spots on a car ill take time but meanwhile you are adding a irreversible damage and affecting the productivity.

Yes indeed rain removes most of the dirt attached to the panels but this is for a short period of time,  And let’s not forget here in California we don’t get much rain throughout the year, after the rain the panels look great until it gets windy and then they start to get dusty again. Also birds are attracted to solar panels making it another issue. But if you feel rain is all it needs or you think cleaning the panels is not a difficult task and you are capable of taking on that task by yourself, great. Our services are for those that don’t have the time or just rather hire a company for the proper cleaning.

We use water fed brushes that have firm but soft bristles that won’t scratch or damage the glass of the panels. 
We use the homeowners or facilities water but we carry our  filtration equipment to bring the TDS down to 0-20 ppm. We do not use chemicals because chemicals can potentially damage the finish of the glass and we do not pressure wash the panels because it can damage the glass of the panels, pressure washers are only used on special equipment like the rotating brushes that need the extra boost to spin the brush heads but never directly on to the panels. The difference between water fed brush and rotating brush is the speed on which the operator gets to clean each panel and easier it is. Either way the cleaning is the same if the operator does it right.

Many homeowners and solar farms management have stated that clean Solar Panels increases their efficiency, we cannot determine how much will improve the efficiency but it makes sense clean panels vs dirty panels, clean is always better for the efficiency of the Solar Panels.
